my new job

I'm sooooo excited! I interviewed at a few schools this last week when I was in Houston and this school was by far top on my list. I wanted to teach here so bad. Carl Wunsche Sr. High school is a Career and Technology academy in Spring ISD. Students may apply to come here for 10-12 grade. At the school you take course in your chosen career path. I will be teaching students that think they would like to be teachers themselves early childhood through high school. Students can take classes in so many different fields: pharmacy, EMT, drafting, auto shop, culinary arts, helicopter and plane pilot, veterinary, criminal justice, horticulture, and the list goes on and on. The school was built in 2006, is beautiful, fully equipped with all the latest technology and every student is issued a laptop for school and home use! I am SO EXCITED! And not to mention how awesome all the staff and administration I have met is!

cool blog on school lunch

You need to check out this blog. She is an elementary school teacher somewhere in the Midwest. She has decided to eat school lunch every Monday-Friday for 2010. She takes a picture of it with her camera phone and puts it on her blog. Pretty interesting to check out. You can get to know a little bit more about her from this anonymous email interview she did when she first started her blog.

On a side note. I actually think the school lunch at my school now and the school I student taught at in Houston was really pretty good. I thought there was a lot of diversity and healthy options. Fruit and veggies, milk, salad, etc. The blogs food looks bad. And there is TONS of plastic packaging....it is out of control!

PLINKO!

My greatest teaching tool. I made this PLINKO board and the kids LOOOOOVE IT! I give them plinko coupons for doing good things, and then they can cash them in to play. Based on which color their chips lands in they get a different prize. They ask to play every single day. It is so cute!

my classroom

Check out my classroom! I love it and think it is pretty cozy! It is a portable outside in the parking lot, but it has air and heat so it is perfect. I also love having all the windows so we can look outside and see the rain and snow!

i love it!

So the first week of school is over. Can you even believe it? So after my first period class, I seriously thought "there is no way in hell i am doing this for the rest of the year". They were so loud, and talkative and i had to ring a bell to get there attention every 15 seconds. I was so sad.....but then 2nd was good 3rd was great and then 4th was kind of bad again. I'm telling you one thing, 43 students in a class is just not manageable.....so I was all sad thinking how am I going to do this.

I came up with a plan, made a seating chart and picked up my "voice enhancer" from the media center at school. It is basically and necklace microphone that is projected into the classroom. A STRAIGHT UP MIRACLE!
It made all the difference in the world. I love it now. First period students were like little angels. I wish there were less in each class so I could get to know each of them better, but I'm just picking one battle at a time here! I can't wait to update you on next week.
And-I'm substituting for the first time on Tuesday! (because I only teach every other day). I can't wait!

first day of school

This is the image I am going to see tomorrow morning as all my new little students pile out of the bus into school! Can you even belive it. I am freaking out kind of. Tomorrow is the first day, but since it is block schedule I won't have kids in my class until Tuesday because I only teach on "B" days. I will have one more day to prepare! I'm so excited though! I'm sure I will have tons of stories to come!!!!

my art collection

My parents bought a new house and are in the process of packing up everything and moving. We have being going down memory lane for weeks now. Today we stumbled across these awesome masterpieces that I have from my childhood art collection. This one below won 1st place for Rodeo Art when I was in third grade. Rodeo Art is an art competition with a rodeo theme that goes on during the month long Houston Rodeo and Livestock show! I loved taking my art classes so much. It is so weird how I can specifically remember taking the classes I did when I made all of those pieces. I remember what the classroom looked like, where I sat, my teacher, the people I would pass notes to in the hall before the bell rang. Oh good times! What is even weirder is now I will be teaching that same age group in one short month!!!! AAAAHHHHHH that is so scary!!! Ryan made me get ride of all this crap because he claims I'm a hoarder (which I basically am) so I decided to take a picture of a few to capture the moment! Enjoy!

in celebration

This is a little late, but in celebration of getting a job my mom got Ryan and I a little bubbly!
They sell it packaged all cute with 2 little plastic glasses in the BYU Bookstore. My whole time there I always thought about buying it for a special occasion-now I finally got to partake! Thanks mom.

guess who got a job?

I'm so sooooo excited! I got a job! I will be teaching this next school year in Granite School District at a Junior High (I don't want to be too specific, you never know what kind of creepsters could be stalking me on this). I will be teaching 7th graders in home-ec. I love everything about it...my classes I will be teaching, the other teachers in the department, my classroom, the principal. It all worked out so perfectly. Not to mention the fact that come November when my benefits kick in I will finally be able to go to the dentist for the first time in 2 years! woo woo!! Now I am constantly obsessing over how I am going to do the bulletin boards in the classroom and which tape dispenser to buy! I have already spent well over an hour at the teacher supply store!
