2 years and 10 months old

I know this is probably shocking to most people, but this is the top tier of our wedding cake that has been frozen since we got married. The original intention was to do the traditional thing of freezing the top layer of your wedding cake until your 1 year wedding anniversary. My mom had it in her extra freezer and then we were living in Hawaii over our first anniversary so we forgot about it.
My mom gave it to us right when we moved back from Hawaii but we didn't eat it right away. We just also put it in our freezer. Well I always knew it was there and I still had intentions of trying a bite. Well I finally took it out and thawed it. This is what it looked like. Ryan was disgusted and kept telling me I would die if I tried it. So neither of us tried it and I ended up just throwing it away. Pretty gross -huh?

how sad is this?

This is why you should ALWAYS USE A RECIPE. I was feeling saucy several weeks back while at Sunflower's Market and was walking buy a nice lady when she started chatting me up. She noticed I was buying yellow onion, red onion, limes, cilantro, etc. so she told me about this great way to make salsa. I was hungry and it sounded good so I went home and tried out her method.
She told me to use caned tomatoes so I bought a lot of fresh produce and a lot of canned tomatoes and then I tried to make it. IT WAS HORRIBLY DISGUSTING. I think I put way too much of some key ingredients. I think it was a very strong combination of red onion, cilantro and white onion. I was so sad about it tasting gross so I kept trying to save it by diluting it down by adding more tomatoes.....HUGE MISTAKE. It didn't work. I literally dumped this whole thing down the sink. It was like catching a $20 dollar bill on fire. Very depressing. I should of just stuck with my mom's wonderful recipe I had sitting on my shelf that I know is really yummy.

jamie oliver's food revolution

For anyone that knows me well, you know I go through big "phases". I become OBSESSED with something, a topic, a show, a project, a book, an idea, a concept, a craft, etc......, and then I pretty much always get distracted along the way (unless I took my adderall). But-I'm still going strong with the whole eating healthy thing. I really am converted. Check out this new show that highlights the problem with how we eat as a Nation.

cool blog on school lunch

You need to check out this blog. She is an elementary school teacher somewhere in the Midwest. She has decided to eat school lunch every Monday-Friday for 2010. She takes a picture of it with her camera phone and puts it on her blog. Pretty interesting to check out. You can get to know a little bit more about her from this anonymous email interview she did when she first started her blog.

On a side note. I actually think the school lunch at my school now and the school I student taught at in Houston was really pretty good. I thought there was a lot of diversity and healthy options. Fruit and veggies, milk, salad, etc. The blogs food looks bad. And there is TONS of plastic packaging....it is out of control!

fantastic garlic bread

I am not kidding when I say I have never made a more delicious food item. You have to make this to go with any soup, pasta, lasagna.....SO GOOD! I saw it on Barefoot Contessa on the Food Network and had to try it the next day! Here is the recipe:

Ingredients

  • 6 large garlic cloves, chopped
  • 1/4 cup chopped flat-leaf parsley
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh oregano leaves
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup good olive oil
  • 1 loaf ciabatta bread
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Place the garlic in the bowl of a food processor and process until minced. Add the parsley, oregano, salt and pepper and pulse twice. Heat the olive oil in a medium saute pan and add the garlic mixture. Remove the pan from the heat. Slice the ciabatta bread in half horizontally, and spread the butter on 1 half. Spread the garlic mixture on the other half of the bread, and put the halves together. Wrap the bread in aluminum foil. Place the bread in the oven and bake for 5 minutes. Open the foil, and continue baking for an additional 5 minutes.

run to blockbuster TONIGHT

I have been converted. Food, Inc. and an Oprah episode I watched on this movie has totally changed my eating. You can rent it at Blockbuster. I think it is up for some Academy Awards too. I am now obsessed with buying natural food products and organic when it is not too crazy expensive. For everyone is Utah you have to start shopping at Sunflower Farmer's Market. It is great! They have tons of good deals all the time and every Thursday you get 20% off with your college ID. Watch it!!! You will be converted too. Now I want to read the book that the guy from the movie wrote!

january shout outs!

Okay, well I realize January is now over (crazy) and Megan had her birthday on Jan 22 and Scott and Carly had their birthday on Jan 26..... Happy Happy Birthday to everyone! But I wanted to show my new favorite obsession. This delicious cake from The Complete Magnolia Bakery Cookbook.

It is so good! I made it once here for Scott, then the other day for JT and Kali because of their new baby, and now I am making it on Thursday for a baby shower. LOVE IT! Everything seems yummy in the cookbook, try it out yourself.

walk through riverwoods

Demi has been in town this week for the Thanksgiving holiday. We have sure had fun hitting up the Provo hot-spots. Five Guys, In & Out, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. It was so fun when we got this hot chocolate. We just left my parents house and walked to all the shops in the Riverwoods and looked at all the pretty Christmas lights! They live at such a cool location!

i hope there are milkshakes in heaven

Where do I begin with these bad boys.  Ryan figures if I keep up this latest habit we will spend $60 a month JUST ON MILKSHAKES......hahaha  needless to say, I unfortunately haven't bought one yet this week.  I REALLY AM ADDICTED.  It is my favorite treat I have ever had.  It is the perfect milkshake.  Really, the perfect milkshake.  You can not get this good of a milkshake in the Provo/Orem area, trust me, I have tried.  Come visit me and you can try it too!

Dinner With the Fam

I take so many pictures dealing with food.  It is my passion what can I say :)

Here we are eating at Campioni when my dad came to town for business.  Ryan even got to make it to dinner because they got off earlier that night!  Speaking of working hours, Ryan worked...........(drum roll) 136 hours the last two weeks!  Yep, that is pretty insane, but so goes it in the accounting world during busy season!

Hot Dog

You can't get a better hot dog than this!  I LOVE LOVE LOVE James Coney Island.  Nothing beats a chili cheese coney for the low price of $1.39!  They have been doing it for the past 83 years so I think they have perfected the art of hot dogs!  Man, I want one right now!

yummy food

Oh we have eaten the best food since we have been here.  I bought my zagat guide for Texas and we are hitting up all the good spots, and of course places my family has always gone to.  Here we are in front of Pappasito's! Mmmmmmm, it so yummy!
This is the Bar B Q place I talked about in a post a few days ago.  It is delicious as well.  I have been there a few times by my self without Ryan because it is so good and cheap! This is Amy's Ice cream.  Also fabulously yummy!  We normally split a different milk shake of sorts.  And they are open till midnight so that is nice for when we are hungry for a little treat later in the evening :) Oh and of course there are many more delicious restaurants we have eaten at.  Ruggles cafe, the Grotto, Cafe Adobe, James Coney Island, Papa's Bar-B-Q.......

Grandma's Rolls

When school first started, I went over to my Grandma's house, and she taught me how to make the famous family rolls that have been at all Easter's and Thanksgiving for as long as I can remember. They are my great great grandma's recipe. Grandma Rachel Wilson. They had a restaurant called Wilson's Cafe back in the 1950's where they would make breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They are so yummy and it was exciting to finally learn how to make them straight from the source! Thanks Grandma, you know I will be carrying on this delicious family tradition and passing it on to my kids!

funny stuff

Apparently, you can't eat anything if you want to lose weight :) My friend looks really good and has lost some weight lately, and I just had to laugh at the difference between our plates when I made Chicken Curry.

Guess which plate is mine?

shave ice

This is the best shaved ice EVER. Mmmmm, sometimes I just start thinking about it and I want one so bad! It is a really famous place and it always has a huge line out the door. This is a cute little restaurant we ate at. The Grass Skirt Grill, Ryan used to eat here when he lived there. I unfortunately bit my lip sooooo bad. I was practically crying. It took forever to heal too! We ate at lots of yummy places while we were there!
